Taxing the Poor

Enough is Enough

When is enough actually, genuinely, enough?  Well, this is one of those relative questions (no, not the how often do we have to see you Mother type relative questions).  Each person answering the question will answer it from their own perspective;  the only common thread is that enough is generally more than each person has at that particular time.

In an article in the Telegraph on-line it appears that large accountancy firms are doing their best to help all those poor starving people earning over £150,000 to avoid/mitigate their liability to 50% tax.

This is outrageous - how on earth can anyone expect to survive on £150,000 and afford to pay 50% tax?  What were the Government thinking in imposing such a swinging tax on this poor unfortunate group?  They probably had the same thing in mind when they withdrew the 10% tax band.

Whilst on the same subject, it appears from recent articles in different publications that some of the Accountancy firms advising the £150K+ brigade on paying less tax, also have contracts with the Government.  Does this strike anyone as being a little odd?  A large funder of the firms has its own income cut due to the activities of said firms.  Isn't it time for the Government to review to whom they give work?

What now?
